attacking the president as weak on national security and that they're going to allege that the obama administration had positive intelligence that there was going to be a terrorist attack in libya. is that attack going to work? >> not at all. in fact, what's interesting is in the last week, when the republicans have been doing trial balloons with this attack, the president's advantage on foreign policy has actually increased. in the battleground poll, it increased by a third. over this period in time. the president's credentials on foreign policy are well-established and what's different about the president and mitt romney is the president has a record and he doesn't play politics with foreign policy. and i think that provides a great deal of security to voters. voters also rank the president as ahead of mitt romney on strong leadership. and that strong leadership is highly correlated with the decisive actions he's taken in foreign policy whether it is getting us out of iraq or finding osama bin laden or waiting to

five weeks, what, the next four years will be no better than last four years, something like that. very positive. if you elect obama. i happen to believe that star and that's why i'm not for reelection president obama but is not a very inspiring forward-looking spoken about what mid-romney will do. it's hard to blame the guy who wants to get reelected with a pretty narrow cast, casting approach to democratic and independent constituencies to try to scare them about ron is just bush, there is a war on women and all that but i don't go get the kind of frame you would like. i'm a little is pessimistic. i do think reality matters, as we've been saying. we are going to hit the cliff in all kinds of ways. be any fiscal cliff in the real clip in 2013 is you can't sustain these deficits obviously for too long because they can't keep printing money and expect the world to take it or buy treasury notes forever. the economy is slow and they will be coming into another dip. they are foreign policy challenges i think the next president will have a moment between november 7, i agree just to begin nov

into the final weeks of the campaign. in the postgraduate realm, 57% are supporting barack obama. some colleges are evenly divided. jonesboro, arkansas, good morning. caller: i have a lot of friends that actually voted for president obama in the last election. a lot of them are really disappointed. what they thought they wanted. many of them are just disappointed. i think that is part of the problem. there's a lack of civic education. i did not have that in high school but i am a student in history. i feel there is a strong need to get back to what the country was originally founded for. it was basically a place where you could do whatever you wanted. without the boundaries of government and the role they pled guest:. play. guest: it is not entirely unusual for you not to have a civics course. the requirements are there, sometimes this is something that gets put to the side in k-12 schools. in this country, a lot of organizations that use to recruit americans into civic and political life for on the decline. research shows that this can lead to engagement later in life. we need to sustain a hea

, it will be seen as the first step for the obama team to get its footing back. in the world we live in now, where everything is analyzed instantaneously, even before it happens, i think it is a meaningful event next week. >> it is important until the next presidential debate and then it becomes fairly irrelevant. >> it is important until it is over. >> they should have a disclaimer -- this debate is for entertainment purposes only. >> chicago is saying, thank god we have biden to pick us up after last night. [laughter] >> if first impressions are the most important and if the average american really tuned in for the first time, would that suggest that the next two presidential debates are less important? what is your opinion on how much the second and third presidential debates can matter? >> i think they are still very significant. it seems like ancient history now, but reagan's first debate against mondale did not go well and he turned it around in the second debate. what everybody wanted to happen, in terms of the voters, they wanted to reelect reagan because things were going well. they breat

democrats. >> there was a decision from the sixth circuit court of appeals on friday of last week that came out in favor of the obama campaign position that for three days before the election, civilian voters have to be treated the same as military voters. >> when you come to this campus, it is the ohio state university. there are 60,000 students plus on campus including the satellite campuses. our phone lines are open. set aside for those in the state of ohio, the president traveling here. also chris-crossing the state and into the 800 at doral votes that are up for grabs. let me go back to issue two. a big ballot initiative. >> it has to do with redistricting. in 2006, the democrats swept every statewide office with the exception of the state auditor's position. every single office, that was in 2010. it coincides with the census which triggers a redistricting. republicans did with the majority party typically has gotten when given the plan to redraw maps. that favors republicans. we had a 50-50 state. and when you look at the legislative map and the congressional map, it is way out of wha

will be made an issue in that debate to set up the presidential debate next week. it will be about whether we purposely withdrew security out of libya before this attack, and that is a serious thing and a big blemish for obama and biden. dagen: what say you? >> i think the same thing. there is a smoking gun potentially, and i underscore potentially, dagen, in what happened in libya. that could be the october surprise in the campaign. the obama campaign is trying to run out the clock. dagen: you have to worry about syria and turkey. >> you certainly do. dagen: which connell will be talking about coming up not to steal your thunder mcshane. doug schoen, john leboutillier, terrific to see you. you can catch them every monday on foxnews.com. it is every weekend on campaign insiders on the fox news channel. there you go. connell: not to steal your thunder at all because mitt romney is the one who hopes he has the thunder. he's speaking right now, there he is, live in virginia, talking about foreign policy, and that's reason we're going to bring up syria. our next guest is john bolton, one of the t

think in this case, barak obama suffered from his own hubrus. he strolled in thinking he could phone it in. it reminded me several weeks ago we had national empty chair day. it looked like national empty podium day there yesterday for him. rather unfortunate. i think he's not going to take it for granted the next time. >> brian: what i saw interesting, for example, when you hear the president talk about tax breaks fort oil companies and for the rich and the corporate jet owners, as if they're the problem, i thought it was very interesting and a calculated way, mitt romney was able to spell out why they are not the problem and take the corporate oil -- excuse me, take the oil company tax breaks, put it in perspective and compare it to the green energy. a lot of people who do this for a living and hoping not to be vilified, which they were for the last 3 1/2 years, must have felt pretty good. >> yeah. romney was incredibly effective. he looked competent. he sounded confident. he was engaged. he was everything that barak obama was not. i think it was a reminder to people of just how di
